Meta-morphology Lab - St. Petersburg
Science and Technology Studies Center at European University at St. Petersburg
This workshop explores the landscape of the invisible city, using digital traces to unveil, measure and study the meta-morphology of the city. Participants used large dataset of location-based social media from Instagram and open source GIS software. They combined big data analytics with observation of site to reveal the hidden stories in the every day life of St. Petersburg. The 2016 summer school combined lectures by participating faculty and a practical hands-on lab directed by Lev Manovich and Damiano Cerrone. The summer schools had a dual teaching and research focus to learn new methods and technologies while providing a platform to produce novel academic work. The transnational and multidisciplinary environment gave a unique opportunity for participants to expand their professional network and extent their possibilities to initiate new collaborations. Participants have also engaged to produce collaborative online and conference publications and some continued their involvement with the projects after the completion of each two week summer school.
