Urban complexity and amenity classification in Manchester

University of Salford, Manchester, Jul. 2017

Project outline

  • Capturing an up-to-date socio-economic image of Manchester, the MediaCityUK area, and their urban context.
  • GIS data integration with unconventional data sets elaborated from social media archives, chosen for their availability rather than strictly theoretical considerations.
  • Study of the geographic distribution of amenities and the definition of spatio-temporal patterns of urban and rural settlements to assess the social and economic opportunities offered by each area.
  • Focus on clustering and dispersal phenomena to learn how the spatial relations between socio-economic establishments are typical to the urban and regional contexts of one city.
